
Cienna Minniefield
Also known as THE COLOR (pronouns: dey/dem/they/them/) is a black transgender non-binary, multi-expensive artist and cultural worker. Who currently resides in Tsalaguwetiyi and Mvskoke lands (otherwise known as Metro Atlanta, GA). Their multifaceted practice spans various artistic disciplines and is grounded in Black feminist theory, liberation, and community care.

Minniefield's work explores themes of community, resistance, beauty, and joy, with a particular focus on the complexities of Black trans identity and the interwoven experiences of the Black South. Through their art, they engage in the act of memory-keeping, drawing from Afro-futurism, ancestral patterns, and trans-centered narratives to construct a rich anthology of collective memory. This approach not only preserves the histories of Black Queerness but also envisions new possibilities for future movements, offering nuanced, visual stories that celebrate the fluidity and intersectionality of Black trans and queer experiences.

Working across installation, quilting, photography, sound, digital illustration, collage, and mural work, Minniefield’s practice invites a continuous dialogue between past, present, and future. They are one of the founders and stewards of FOR OUR SIBS, a Black trans-led mutual-aid collective, and the Blaqueer Artist Market, an underground creative space dedicated to supporting local Black queer and trans artists.

Minniefield’s work has been recognized and featured by prominent brands and institutions, including the National Black Artist Festival, Cultural Strike, Afrotech, THEM Magazine, Facebook, Glossier, I.D. Magazine, the WNBA, Living Walls, and Arts & Entertainment Atlanta, among others. Through their art and activism, Minniefield continues to reshape the cultural landscape, amplifying the stories of Black trans and queer communities while fostering care and collective growth.
